The National Portrait Gallery is the country’s largest collection of portraits of notable Australians. The Gallery’s mission to to accurately reflect the history and culture of Australia through their collection.

The purpose of the National Portrait Gallery is to:

  • develop, preserve, maintain and promote a national collection of portraits and other works of art; and
  • develop and engage a national audience for the collection, exhibitions, education, research, publications, and public and online programs.
