The Annie Casey Foundation Authentic Youth Engagement report outlines how child welfare agencies can support both strong youth-adult partnerships and authentic youth engagement. The end goal is simple: Help young people in foster care become meaningfully invested — and connected — as they move toward adulthood.

Adolescents in foster care have often missed out on natural occasions to lead, make decisions and contribute to their community. As a result, child welfare agencies must intentionally create opportunities for youth in care to take on these critical roles.

Engagement is important for all youth, and it’s absolutely critical for young people in foster care.
